Every year after the peat moss cultivation and harvesting, the peat fields and used areas are safely prepared for regeneration – to enable its natural succession and unchanged quality through the years. Sustainable Peat Harvesting Practices

At Hortimed, we are committed to sustainable peat harvesting. By adopting responsible peat moss harvesting techniques, we ensure minimal environmental impact.

  • Controlled Harvesting: We implement controlled harvesting methods to reduce the disturbance to peat bogs, allowing these ecosystems to continue to sequester carbon and support wildlife.
  • Regeneration Efforts: After harvesting stops, we promptly initiate reclamation procedures to encourage peat bog regeneration and ecological balance. We leave a buffer zone of original vegetation when bogs are cleared for harvesting, minimizing the impact on local wildlife and plant species. To further support this regeneration, we leave a layer of peat beneath the harvest level to facilitate natural plant re-growth. This practice also helps sequester carbon, contributing to climate change mitigation.
  • Minimizing Carbon Footprint: Through innovative techniques, we minimize carbon emissions associated with peat harvesting, ensuring our practices contribute to a healthier planet.
