EUROPEAN FUNDED RESEARCH PROJECT

Hortimed is participating in European Funded research project for Improving the productivity and quality of organically grown crops by using of new mineral-organic fertilizers. Collaborating with the leaders in Latvian Biological research, we are aiming to promote the development of organic farming in Latvia by using mineral-organic products and peat to achieve highest yield quality, volumes, while ensuring the efficiency and safety for organic farming.

During the project it is planned to test different recipes of mineral-organic preparations and to test their effect on different crops (for each crop, the fertilizer will be adapted to its growing requirements, such as N-P-K ratio, pH, etc.).

Hortimed is the provider and partner for peat products. Together with different additives, different peat fractions and options will be used. The developed mineral-based preparations are intended to be tested on the following crops: grapes (grown in pots in a greenhouse and in the field), hemp (grown in the field) and highbush blueberries as well as other various crops, to see the performance and analyse the recipes of the mineral-organic products. Additives contain differently processed by-products: of plant origin, animal proteins, chemically untreated wood ash, mineral rocks, formulants of natural origin.

The raw materials used meet the requirements of organic farming in accordance with EU Regulation 834/2007. The project is co-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD). Project No.: 19-00-A01620-000075. More information on the EAFRD is available here: https://ec.europa.eu/info/food-farming-fisheries/key-policies/common-agricultural-policy/rural-development
